鈥淭he time has come for us to make a deliberate investment in the success of our students of African descent so this year we will appoint our first Black Student Advisor to our student services team,鈥� said Dr. Peter Ricketts, Acadia鈥檚 President and Vice Chancellor. 鈥淲e began discussions with members of our Black Students鈥� Association (BSA) last year about the need for this position and the time is right, as we launch African Heritage Month, to announce that we will expand our student services capacity to include this position. I believe that we need to increase our cultural competency on campus, provide better academic and community support to students of African descent, and strengthen our connection to external organizations and individuals, especially our alumni, with the resources that can help our students pursue career opportunities.鈥�

Ron Joyce, the Nova Scotia native who created a billion-dollar empire with the Canadian staples of Tim Hortons coffee and doughnuts, has died. He was 88.

This January 25th and 26th, Acadia is hosting the 6th Annual Student Research and Creative Arts Symposium. The event, organized by the Acadia Graduate Students鈥� Association, welcomes Acadia students from all disciples and years of study to present their research to fellow students, faculty members and the general public.

New awards strengthen support for students pursuing higher education and working toward professional credentials in nutrition and dietetics

Wolfville, NS, December 12, 2018 -- On Saturday, November 3rd Chartwells at 外流影片, the Acadia Students鈥� Union (ASU) and the ASU Food Cupboard held the first Funds for the Food Cupboard fundraising event, raising a total of $2,000 in support of the on-campus student-run foodbank, the Food Cupboard. Chartwells matched all funds raised.

"The Funds for the Food Cupboard event held at the Axe Bar and Grill was a great success,鈥� said Caitlin Sanderson, ASU Food Cupboard Coordinator. 鈥淭his event was not only about raising money but it also started the conversation of student food insecurity here at 外流影片. By holding and participating in events such as this one, we can work together to build and support a community that is food secure.鈥�

Acadia Masters Student Laura Smith (鈥�19) Receives Bright Red Research Award from NS Heart and Stroke Foundation

A second year clinical psychology student from Acadia has been awarded a Bright Red Student Research Award offered exclusively by the Nova Scotia chapter of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

Laura Smith, originally from Cole Harbour, NS, is part of a research team at Acadia led by Dr. Anne Sophie Champod and she is conducting research into how children鈥檚 brains respond to prism adaptation (PA) therapy. PA is an experimental treatment used with stroke patients with a condition called spatial neglect whereby they cannot identify or react to stimuli on the left-side of their vision. She received her award at a ceremony in Halifax on November 20, 2018.
