David MacPhee, MSW, RSW
David (he/him) has been employed at the Counselling Centre since 2020. David is originally from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Along with clinical therapy, David is the counselling centre鈥檚 intake coordinator and case manager. David has been trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative therapy, and Integrative Trauma and Attachment Model (ITAM). As a Registered Social Worker and clinical therapist, David has been primarily interested in trauma-informed approaches and how a fuller acceptance of oneself can lead to change and openness. David鈥檚 social work background has informed him in anti-oppressive and post-colonial approaches. David resides in Wolfville, you can often see him on main street with his family.
Marissa Walter, BScH, MSc (Candidate Register)
Marissa has a BScH in Psychology from Queen鈥檚 University, and an MSc in Clinical Psychology from 外流影片. She has experience working in private practice, community mental health, and university settings.
As a clinician with African Nova Scotian and Caribbean roots, Marissa is committed to providing supportive and sensitive care to students of diverse cultural and racial backgrounds.
She is intentional about creating a safe environment for students to process and understand their experiences. She works with students facing a range of challenges including depression, anxiety, trauma, burnout, and difficult life transitions (for example, academic, professional, personal life adjustments, grief, and loss).
In sessions, Marissa uses various therapeutic techniques to help clients meet their goals. Some of these techniques include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), and mindfulness-based approaches. Marissa strives to offer clinical expertise in combination with a warm, empathetic environment for students to work through their difficulties, grow, and thrive.
Emilie Zimmer, MEd, RCT-C
Emilie works with students who are navigating complex challenges that impact mood, motivation, and relationships. She values the strength and self-knowledge that students bring into therapy. These resources are central to locating new and meaningful pathways forward. Emilie鈥檚 approach is trauma-informed and compassion-focused, with an emphasis on embodiment, creativity, and relationality. She collaborates with students as they identify and move towards ways of being and relating that are consistent with their values and goals.
Emilie received her MEd in Counselling from 外流影片. She brings knowledge and experience in addiction services, community mental health, and international education into her role as clinical therapist.
