Exhibition Opening - Holly Carr
September 6, 2025 (7:00 pm)
Location: BAC Art Gallery
Light in the Forest, first presented at the ÍâÁ÷ӰƬ Art Gallery in 2013 was an installation that explored the role of nostalgia and childhood memories. The installation was comprised of large-scale paintings on silk that created an illustrated environment of storybooks where the viewer was immersed in veiled apparitions.
As a child, the artist Holly Carr was drawn to the details that surrounded her: from wallpaper patterns, strangers, church hats, swooping ravens and the neighbors’ clothing hanging on the line. Carr used these past experiences that bridge both fear and awe to create a complex realm of narratives from her youth that interrogates the dichotomy between myths, fears, and safe places.
In the decade since this project debuted at the ÍâÁ÷ӰƬ Art Gallery Carr has expanded the project into performances, an app, educational curriculum, and a book focusing on the relationship between art, nature and mental health. We are pleased to present ‘a coming home’ of the project in the ÍâÁ÷ӰƬ Art Gallery.
The exhibition runs until December 4th.
