Campaign for Acadia receives $2-million boost

Campaign Chair Nancy McCain and husband The Honourable Bill Morneau make cornerstone gift to support Acadia鈥檚 student centre renewal and Centre for Student Success

外流影片 is proud to announce a $2-million gift in support of the Campaign for Acadia from Nancy McCain (鈥82) and her husband, The Honourable Bill Morneau, dedicated to enhanced facilities and services for Acadia students.

This extraordinary donation moves Acadia dramatically closer to creating an inviting and accessible student centre in a reimagined and revitalized Students鈥 Union Building. This renewed facility will be home to the proposed Centre for Student Success, a one-stop shop for the services, people and programs that promote strength, resilience and academic achievement. The Centre will also extend Acadia鈥檚 stepped care model of mental health services to include general health promotion, illness prevention, and harms reduction activities aimed at the entire campus.

University President Dr. Peter Ricketts said, 鈥渢he McCain family has had a long and close relationship with the University going back to 1899, when Andrew Davis McCain graduated from Horton Academy, and extending through four generations right up to the present day. As Chair of the Campaign for Acadia, Nancy McCain has worked tirelessly on Acadia鈥檚 behalf to engage and encourage our alumni, community partners and friends to help us reach our $75-million goal. This wonderful gift is a huge step forward for the Campaign, and we are extremely grateful to Nancy and Bill for their remarkable commitment to the health and success of our students.鈥

鈥淔rom the very beginning,鈥 Nancy McCain said, 鈥渢he Campaign for Acadia has aimed to support the aspirations of our students and faculty and give them the resources they need to sustain Acadia鈥檚 reputation as a premier liberal arts university. The outstanding efforts of our Campaign Cabinet and the tremendous support we鈥檝e received from our many alumni and friends only confirms for me the esteem in which Acadia is held and the affection that people feel for the University. Bill and I are delighted to contribute to Acadia today so that current and prospective students have vital resources that will ensure their personal and academic success now and in years to come.鈥

Acadia鈥檚 Vice-President, Advancement Dr. Rod Morrison remarked on Nancy McCain鈥檚 strong commitment to the Campaign鈥檚 four pillars 鈥擳ransform, Inspire, Discover, and Build 鈥 and how they will strengthen Acadia for future generations.

鈥淓very gift matters,鈥 he added, 鈥渁nd Nancy McCain鈥檚 leadership, determination and kindness have exemplified the spirit of the Campaign for Acadia from day one. With a family relationship to the University that extends back more than a century, Nancy鈥檚 personal commitment to Acadia鈥檚 future is unsurpassed, and I鈥檓 deeply grateful to her and Bill for this incredible gift.鈥
