ÍâÁ÷ӰƬ’s newest Canada Research Chair is Dr. Zoë Migicovsky, an assistant professor in biology and an expert in two of the most economically important crops in Nova Scotia and Canada – apples and grapes.

ÍâÁ÷ӰƬ’s top academic leader, Dr. Dale Keefe, Provost and Vice-President, Academic, will join a new governance body within the Maple League of Universities, which comprises four primarily undergraduate schools – Acadia, Bishop’s, Mount Allison, and St. Francis Xavier.

Canada’s Minister for Women and Gender Equity and Youth, Marci Ien, and the Member of Parliament for Kings-Hants, Kody Blois, along with Acadia’s President, Dr. Peter Ricketts, and Students’ Union President, Sadie McAlear, met with students at ÍâÁ÷ӰƬ on November 9 to discuss the impacts of the recent 2022 Fall Economic Statement.

ÍâÁ÷ӰƬ is hosting Growing Innovation: Meaningful Post-Secondary Research, the first symposium of its kind to discuss innovation in community research and how to support and build meaningful research relationships between Nova Scotia communities and the province’s universities and colleges.

ÍâÁ÷ӰƬ President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Peter Ricketts has been honoured by the Province of Nova Scotia for his dedication to the field of education.  

At an investiture ceremony held at Government House on October 18, 2022, the Honourable Arthur J. LeBlanc, Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, presented Dr. Ricketts with the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal in recognition of his leadership in higher education.  

Dr. Hans-Otto Pörtner was recognized with an honorary Doctor of Science from ÍâÁ÷ӰƬ for his scholarly leadership in the impacts of climate change during a luncheon held on October 7, 2022, in the Clark Commons. The small ceremony culminated his campus visit to deliver the inaugural Dr. Fred Gilbert Lecture Series. 

Acadia maintained its top five rank overall in the primarily undergraduate category and earned fifth place by reputation in the 2023 Maclean's University Rankings.  

ÍâÁ÷ӰƬ President Emeritus Ray Ivany’s portrait was unveiled at a reception in the Garden Room of the K.C. Irving Environmental Science Centre on October 4, 2022. The painting, created by artist Steven Rhude, will take its place alongside former university presidents in the lobby of University Hall.
