Remembering Dr. Stanley Fisher

Acadia mourns Dr. Stanley Fisher, who passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026.

After over three decades (1977-2010) as a Professor of Woodwinds in Acadia鈥檚 School of Music, he was appointed as the university鈥檚 very first Professor Emeritus.

Before coming to Acadia, Dr. Fisher followed his passion for music from his hometown of Windsor, Ontario to the Royal Canadian Navy Reserves Band, and stages all over the world as an internationally recognized clarinet soloist. He earned his Doctorate in Woodwinds at the University of Michigan.

"Dr. Stan Fisher devoted his life to the calling of education, sharing his knowledge and passion with generations of students,鈥 says Dr. Christianne Rushton (Director, School of Music).

鈥淎s an educator, his greatest legacy is found in the lives of the young musicians he helped inspire鈥攎any of whom are now proud to be teaching in Acadia鈥檚 School of Music. His legacy demonstrates the continued impact of his work as his students pass his knowledge and passion for music onto the next generation, allowing us to learn from, reflect on, and continue building on the work he began.鈥
